The Sars Centre
Postdoctoral Reasearchers, each for 2 years The Sars Centre, affiliate to the University of Bergen, Norway, is offering two postdoctoral positions in the research group headed by Dr Daniel Chourrout, each for two years. The Chourrout group focuses its research on the evolution of tunicate development and the Oikopleura genome. The position in the project Evolution of sex determination is funded by the Sars Centre budget. The position aims at characterizing the structure, function and evolution of novel sex chromosomes. Numerous resources have been developed in this novel model organism, including a fully sequenced genome. Applicants to this position should have a strong interest in developmental biology and a solid background in molecular and/or cell biology. Experience in directly relevant techniques will be a clear plus. The position is available immediately, the start date is negotiable. The position in the project Evolution of Hox gene function is funded by the Norwegian Research Councils Functional Genomics programme (FUGE). The position aims at elucidating the function of Oikopleura Hox genes during early development. Part of the work will consist of searching Hox gene transcriptional targets (see Nature 431:67-71). Numerous resources have been developed in this novel model organism, including a fully sequenced genome. Applicants to this position should have a strong interest in developmental biology and a solid background in molecular and/or cell biology. Experience in directly relevant techniques (protein biochemistry including recombinant proteins, chromatin immunoprecipitation, confocal microscopy) will be a clear plus. The position is available immediately, the start date is negotiable. The Sars International Centre is a partner of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), www.embl.de and a department of Unifob www.unifob.no, affiliated with the University of Bergen www.uib.no. The Centre is focused on basic research in marine molecular biology, developmental biology and evolution, through genetic and comparative studies of invertebrates and vertebrates. Salary for Postdoctoral Researcher (code 8150) starts at NOK 420.000 depending on seniority. Unifob has employee insurance and pension agreements and is an equal opportunity employer. For further information regarding the position and scientific content of the project please contact the group leader at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or see our website www.sars.uib.no Written application, in English, should include a C.V., summary of educational and work experience, a brief statement of research interest and contact information for two references and be mailed to: Head of Administration, Sars Centre, Bergen High Technology Centre, Thormøhlensgt. 55, NO-5008 Bergen, Norway. Application deadline for both positions is 20 September 2008. Please mark applications to the position in the evolution of sex determination project 08/sars 09, and applications to the position in the evolution of Hox gene function project with 08/sars 10. Applications by e-mail only will not be considered. Antall stillinger 2
